Hi Maren,
Thanks! The character is actually a stylised lion!In this case it is a one legged lion (with a very long neck!). Birds, usually eagles, are used less frequently in celtic lettering. You can tell the difference between lions and eagles by their feet: lions have three or four forward facing toes and eagles have two forward facing and one rear facing toes. Hope this helps

Hey that is beautiful! I have this Celtic design book here, it is a very good way to learn how to draw these intricate designs. And you made a lovely interpretation of the colours, as the picture is only in black& white. Well done.
