Inkscape will be submitting a request to participate again in this year's Google Summer of Code (GSoC). GSoC is a program where students who are 18 or older (as of May 27th) spend their summer coding for an approved Open Source project and in return receive a stipend of $5000.

We have to admit that out main communication channel has silently moved from the homepage to the Google+ page where we post news on development, co-projects, unstable builds, art created with Inkscape and so on.
Leia maisMeet Lasersaur, an open source laser cutter with SVG input
We already reported before on Inkscape related projects that assist and promote personal fabrication, such as Egg-Bot and Inkcut. There is another project that used to be consistently slipping our attention, but recently moved into focus at last. It's Lasersaur, an open source laser cutter that is being worked on by folks from Nortd Labs. The device is controlled via a web app that can use SVG for input.
