The Docs team creates and maintains Inkscape's documentation, which consists of tutorials, manuals, reference guides, and any other instructional materials which the team concludes would benefit Inkscape, and most importantly, the Inkscape community. These will be textual documents as well as videos. And we hope, looking into the future, for "Inkscape University" which would provide coursework!

Although professional writing skills certainly can be utilized on this team, you don't necessarily need such skills to participate and contribute. Fluent English readers and writers, as well as those with video editing skills or experience will be needed. Teachers or people familiar with preparing teaching materials could help. And potentially graphics artists, in case graphics are needed for various documents, rather than just screenshots Even just a good knowledge of how Inkscape works and why, will be an asset to this team.
This is a promising and exciting expansion of this area of development for Inkscape, and one which has been needed. So please don't hesitate to get involved, if you feel like you have something to contribute.
If you would like to join the team, please click the blue Join Team button. As of this writing, we are just forming, and have not decided where or how we will communicate. But for the time being, you could post in the Documentation chatroom, if you have questions.
