The basic idea is based on the shape of Inkscape logo, forming a floating island. That's an imaginary island of creativity. A colorful idea factory. Inkscape, with its power, ease of use and community support is a perfect tool that give us total freedom to focus on delivering any design ideas. HOW TO FOLD A MEMORY Hello, here's my entry for the About Screen contest. I hope you'll like it; :) If you want to know more aout my thought process, here's the brief I composed: https://tinyurl.com/yx72npfd
"Draw Freely" in sticker style, added with some objects in flat color. The concept is to express the tagline "Draw Freely." as its main focus, in hope it could encourage Inkscape users to draw and create vector works freely. The objects around the "Draw Freely" sticker are added to visualize freedom (landscape, flying geese, deer and birds in nature). And for the last, I prefer light gray as the background to show "clearness" and "unlimited" space.

"I know that night always comes with darkness and calmness, I also know that there is light and noise from morning till dusk and finally come back night accompanied by small fireflies who approach me. At that time I learned about life balance. Learn about the many things that happen between these two things. Silent and noise, both of them always accompany them even though they are almost always far apart. Dusk knows about the fatigue and boredom created by the disgusting noise, the evening also witnessed the happiness created by silence even for a moment but it was very beautiful because the beautiful dusk was always orange with gold sparkling accompanied by sunlight shining to sleep. the journey of understanding the life of Randy Juliansyah, which is the background to the creation of this picture, until I understand the light is "Inkscape" where you make us like fireflies who hope life in the dark night"

I don't like contests. :) But I do like Inkscape, freedom and free stuff. Art and drawing is all about being free, so what if instead complicated design and overused effects to obtain shiny things,Inkscape would use a simple (and simplist) and honest (even if it's bad, but who decides that) drawing ? Inkscape has great tools for freehand drawing. The new pencil from 1.0 version will sure be very well received. Also, Inkscape doesn't need to sell the software by using some trendy design image. It's a free software and a damn good one! Use an honest image. An image that suggests freedom in creation and freedom as a state of mind. "Draw Freely" is such a good slogan! :) Congrats to all the people here and in the Inkscape family.

Hi Inkscape Team, this is my entry for the About Screen Contest. I've tried to bring to life some of the Inscape magic through this illustration. I know there is going o be dark theme in the 1.0 version (which is great) and that's why I've used gender and color neutral character drawing through the night. Thank You.
I tried to represent an artwork switching from draft to finished version. Draft side uses graph paper-like patterns and clipped scribbled letters. On the right side, there's a night landscape with a little observatory on the top of a mountain. The two moons are for the "dot zero" of v.1.0.

Hi, with this work I wanted to play with the style of the vectors that resemble the constellations in the sky, so with that idea in mind, instead of the known constellations the new ones would be some icons of Inkscape. Hopefully, like when we stargaze we feel inspired, people can look at Inkscape the same way and wonder of the infinite possibilities of the creative mind. Thank you.

I’ve been designing with Inkscape since 4 years now. It helped me to create a lot of creative stuff that I could earn money to create more. I guess It’s the time to pay my duties back :) Here, I present you one of the best of my works, “Simona”. If you look her from distance, you will see the beauty and the simplicity of the Inkscape. If you look close enough, you will notice the complexity that creates the beauty of Simona is same as the work done by the developers that created the Inkscape. I hope Simona will inspire the developers and the users for creating more and better. Fonts: Roboto, used for “Inkscape”, “0.92” and “drac”. Atatürk, used for “Draw Freely.”

Probably the image size is going to be a problem. I wanted to make the puzzle images raster, to make the file smaller, but the rules don't allow that. So this is 100% vector. Probably there are some things in the file that could be removed to make it smaller, but I thought it would be interesting for anyone who wants to look into the file, to see some of the different stages of creating the image (a lot has been removed though). Also the image size seems to be preventing the SVG image from showing properly in the gallery, thus I've uploaded a raster. (SVG file is 2.5 mb) This version with the white background. The puzzle represents how complex Inkscape is becoming now. As the puzzle pieces are flying away, it represents development building and increasing, to reveal the new version 1.0 underneath. Also, the change from summer foliage to fall foliage represents the maturing of the project. (Plus that's the season we're in right now, where I live.) Fonts: Linux Libertine G and Euphoria Script.

Just fill the conch inkpot with the colour you want, add the head you need and dip it. First of all, thanks for this awesome software. I just moved from Illustrator to Inkscape. Using some of the new and old features of Inkscape. The new "Bend" and "Perspective/Envelope" were particularly helpful here. UPDATED DESIGN, 12 November, 2016.
I don't really like how this one came out, but I will post it anyway. Be sure to check the Inkscape About Screen 3, which I like more. The inspiration, obviously, is that of Soviet impressionistic postering from the first half of the XX century. Perhaps I should change the lower text to read "fulfill the .42nd version plan to its most glorious features"? Created with Inkscape This image is released under the Creative Commons Attribution-Sharealike license, which allows you to copy, modify and use this work as long I am given credit and the derivated works are released under this same license.
Another submission for the Inkscape About Screen Contest ([link]). This one tries, somehow, to resemble technic blueprints (¿is this the correct wording?). I think it feels a bit cluttered, but I wanted the picture to be traced by circles and lines (I know that it's not a technical drawing -- I don't know how to do those. If you do, and think that the `technical feeling' was not properly represented, please tell me how I could do it better. But don't point me towards a manual of technical drawing, because I am not interested in that). Besides, once I started, I kinda got carried on. :) It feels as if it would be a good About Screen for a 0.99 version (hence the "almost technically perfect"). But since that's very far away in time, and Inkscape is bound to be thriving with lots of new features in the meanwhile, I don't think it makes a lot of sense to wait till then. If it does not get chosen, I may redo it, though. Yes, the scale is correct. the small bar in the lower-left corner is 20 píxels wide, at least in Inkscape. If you try to measure it in a bitmap editor (from this PNG) it will be 21 px thick, because of the antialiasing. Done with Inkscape, which is Free Software. As always, you can use this material under the Creative Commons Attribution - Sharealike license, which essentially means that you can copy, use and modify it for any purpose, even commercial ones, as long as you give credit and release any derivative works under this very same license. Please read the whole text ([link]).

This version I like more. Perhaps I should change the lower text to read "fulfill the .42nd version plan to its most glorious features"? While the Screen 2, trying to emulate a wall-with-posters, has something to it, I like this better. It's more elegant. The inspiration, obviously, is that of Soviet impressionistic postering from the first half of the XX century. Created with Inkscape This image is released under the Creative Commons Attribution-Sharealike license, which allows you to copy, modify and use this work as long I am given credit and the derivated works are released under this same license.
I've deleted my original 2nd submission, and replaced with this one (sorry for the extra work, Tim). This is the fun one, while the first was more serious. Except for spirograms perhaps being seen as complex paths (relating to version 1.0 as the most complex version of Inkscape so far) there really is no story to go with this one. It's mostly just for fun....which is why I use Inkscape in the first place - as a hobby, for fun. Fonts: Linux Libertine G and Euphoria Script There's another version of this with a different color scheme that I've put in my personal gallery. (https://inkscape.org/~brynn/%E2%98%85fun-with-spirograms-rainbow-colors)
Here is my entry to the Inkscape .42 About Screen contest. The about screens are a little difficult since you can't go crazy with detail since it needs to render on the fly w/in the program. The stars are accurately mapped and it is a portion of the sky map I drew for Gaze (but a part that got covered by the forground). In case you are wondering, it the area of the sky below Orion and to the left a little.
"Cutting edge design". Certainly there have been some heavy fixation going on in this build. Still rough? May use the plane a bit more to remove the splinters. A huge shout out for the craftmenship in the making. The appearance is heavy based on the new blending modes. For the look check this rendering: http://lazururh.deviantart.com/art/about-screen-inkscape-0-92-644664645 or open it in a 0.92+ build. This is a reupload since couldn't edit the previously uploaded thumbnail. (previous variant is here: http://lazururh.deviantart.com/art/about-screen-inkscape-0-92-644395505)
To achieve great results you need knowledge, good tools and tons of hard work. It can be messy, it can be harsh, but it's worth every second. I wanted to show the roughness of the work when it's important to make a good impression. A grunge pattern helped me with that, and I made it from a picture I took to a cardboard book cover. It's needed tecnique and knowledge, acquired bit by bit, day after day, from lots of sources. The halftones expresses those bits of information and knowledge gathered in an organized structure. The two main figures are enclosed so you can distinguish the mountain from the top, the work from the result. I followed the great tutorial from "Logos by Nick" Custom Vector Text Treatment to get the job done. Hope you find it nice, at least!
And yet another submission for the Inkscape About Screen Contest ([link]). I decided to try something different here -- how Inkscape could be used as a drawing program. Not necessarily replicating "real" painting, but of a drawing tool of its own. See, most of the vectors are carefully positioned nodes, tweaked to perfection. That is nice, sure. But, well, at times, a bit of randomness is nice. I've done that before through an extensive use of tracing and "deconstruction" (simplification of paths, but this picture was drawn just with the calligraphic pen tool (well, and a couple of rectangles to frame it, and the flowed text, and simplifications and fillings... But you get the idea. No node was harmed unnecissarily. ;)) Done with Inkscape, which is Free Software. As always, you can use this material under the Creative Commons Attribution - Sharealike license, which essentially means that you can copy, use and modify it for any purpose, even commercial ones, as long as you give credit and release any derivative works under this very same license. Please read the whole text ([link]).

I always think of Inkscape as a powerful graphics program which is designed for engineers. So I find myself thinking of Science Fiction and in particular of the illustrator from the sixties Jack Gaughan. To me that always meant erudite, well-researched work with often radically simplified forms. And so I chose an SF theme with simplified forms.
