Inkscape is a tool of creative discovery. Maps and islands have been the real world equivalent of new discoveries - so the 1.2 island appeared with endless ideas hovering around it.
20 years of Inkscape is not the end of the journey but a huge milestone. The new version is built on the foundations of the previous versions and is becoming better with each iteration. It's a shining example of what is possible in open source software when a great team of dedicated developers gets together and works their magic. I tried to showcase what can be done in Inkscape with simple shapes and without fancy drawing skills. Using only a limited set of tools to create a consistent yet rich look. The piece relies heavily on gradients, tapered and power stroke path effects on simple lines and basic shapes [circles and rectangles were the starting point for most elements]. Organizing a design of this complexity was key. The improved layers and objects panel was a huge help in keeping the 2500+ objects that make this scene under control. Creative Growth - 20 years of Inkscape Enabling creatives to grow their imagination, go wild, and be creative. I played around a lot with layer blend modes, path effects [taper and powerstroke], blurs, the spiro effects on the pen tool, clones, and Boolean operations. What started as a quick test [while stuck on another idea] grew wild and I went a bit overboard... but it's just too much fun to work in Inkscape. Hello I'm Milad Moosavi and I'm happy that I can participate in this version contest. I do a lot of sketches about the idea of looking back at 20 years of inkscape and finally came up with the idea of time travel. these two characters in my work use a portal to go back in time when the first version of inkscape is about to be released. I wanted to convey the idea that Inkscape has come a long way in the past 20 years, and that we should be proud of what we have achieved. Through hard work and dedication, now we have a tool for artists and designers that is capable of creating stunning works of art. Looking back at where we started, it's amazing to see how far we have come. If you like to see my works you can find me on my website: miladmusav.com or on instagram or twitter with @miladmusav I hope you enjoy my submission and thank you for the opportunity to participate in this contest.

My entry is all about the fun I have when working with Inkscape. It's an awesome tool and makes the creation of vector art a joy. I tried to get that vibe across as well as use some of the great features of the tool to showcase the abilities in a 'not quite like any other tool' way. Enjoy!

Here's grandma and her little grandchild, 'creating together' in Inkscape 1.3. This artwork was inspired by Inkscape's ease of use and accessibility, which this open-source software gives to its users. It also tries to illustrate the limitlessness by which Inkscape has become a great tool in graphics, even for this 15-year-old me! The new shape builder tool has made far easier and quicker boolean operations. Hearty congratulations to the Inkscape developers and contributors who 'created together' this feat of 20 years, enabling us to draw freely! It's 2023, and we have been witnessing many important milestones in Artificial Intelligence and Generative Art. With many tools like ChatGPT and DALLE-2 out in the market, its mainstream for artists to get confused and doubtful. An artwork is like a puzzle. Often we feel that we are missing one finishing touch to our artwork. This picture tries to put forth the synergy in creativity, where technology meets human creativity, trying to put the missing piece of the puzzle, creating new art styles and working together brainstorming ideas. Inkscape continues to remain an exceptional tool for developers, artists, and AIs alike, enabling them to create new art styles, redesign interfaces, and automate design. 20 years is a milestone. We are rooting for you, Inkscape! Fonts used: Fira Code, https://github.com/tonsky/FiraCode. "1.3" at the bottom center is not a font face.

Hi everyone ! I decided to create an image that emphasizes on the collaborative work of Inkscape and its accessibility to everyone. Finally, after several times in which I thought about participating and didn't do it, the time has come, and, winning hours of sleep, here I present my design proposal. As you can see, it's a kind of analogue version of the Inkscape user interface and, in what would be a "page" of the program, I made a design that joins the anniversary of the program and the new "Shape Builder Tool" of this version. Just in case it's not quite "legal", I clarify that, after deciding what I wanted to do (and to help me with perspective, shadows and proportions) I did a first stage of "blocking", modelling the objects of the design in Blender, without materials, and distributing them in a scene. Then I imported the image from Inkscape and used it as a base to make the illustration. The font for the text "SINCE 2003" and the font for my name (which I placed in the lower left corner) is "Miedinger Bold" (downloaded from https://fontlibrary.org/en/font/miedinger#Miedinger*-Bold). The text "20 years" is not a real typeface. It has been very tiring, but very entertaining, the whole process and I'm glad I decided to send a proposal.

Every human being who works with desgin or illustration, has an artist within himself, and uses tools to enhance and present his ideas, convictions and art. I represent these artists here in a tune with inkscape, presenting the new features and improvements of the software, making it increasingly versatile, which is already excellent has gotten even better. This snake is an "Asp viper", i found this one in a forest in France. Despite the relatively big size on the photo, this one was really small (like 2 cm diameter, 20cm long) I made some tests on my photos and i found this one gave interesting effects when vectorized. It has sadly no real link to the 20 years ^^ so i suggested the 20 with the round shapes ... not sure it's really visible :D Happy birssssday.

The position of the UFO plane, which is slightly tilted to the right, symbolizes dynamics, meaning that Inkscape will always advance and keep up with the times. Why did I choose the UFO plane? because it is mysterious but always a hot topic. In a style inspired by Art Nouveau poster artist Alphonse Mucha. I have been studying Aaron Blaise's tutorials on how to draw big cats, and used a number of reference photos to make sure I had some of the head's coloring and proportions correct, but it's not directly from any one photo, really. "Born Freely" is a play on the title "Born Free," the true life story of a couple who pioneered the idea of returning a lion raised in captivity to the wild. Additional text is Linux Liberatore Display. I wanted to keep the text in keeping with the other branding to give your eyes a neutral feeling so that the drawing would stand out on its own.

Hi, I made this entry for the About Screen Contest for Inkscape 1.2. I am a teen who has gained an interest in vectors starting with Adobe Illustrator. I was shown to Illustrator by my visual design teacher and I have been in love with vector graphic editors ever since. A few months later I looked into Inkscape because I know I can't pay for Illustrator. And I was amazed at how well features were implemented. So, I wish more great features will get implemented as well as all the contributors to have good luck and a bunch of fun (and more work done on this). (also the Bot's name is a WIP but for now, I call him Draw bot or Drawbe)
The soul of a big mountain, like Inkscape, gives new enthusiasm to the creative industry in the field of graphic design. As a student in design school I was the only person using inkscape and I was able to want to prove that inkscape is a great software. My submission illustrates a small wassie using all its creativity running Inkscape 1.2. Like me, the character works late at night and gets excessive blue light from its computer (wearing sunglasses can fix this easily).
The Great Outdoors, is a scene created to accentuate nature by including a forest, a mountain (inkscape logo) into glacier run out/a river. The entire scene is mock painted, as a overlayed paint brush hints at an artists painting the entire scene. Made with love for the Inkscape community <3, enjoy.

Long ago, a man was walking through the mountains when suddenly, a star fell from the sky. It was bent, frail and lacking shine. It also looked different from the other stars. Unfortunately he didn't have the time or the energies to care for the star. So, he passed it on to his friend. His friend not wanting to give up on the fallen star cared for it deeply and for a long time. Just when it seemed his efforts were useless, something unexpected happened. The star broke out, shooting high into the air and shinning miraculously in the sky. It was large and well shaped, outshining the other stars and even producing stars of it's own. What was once broken and seemingly useless, became a shining star providing glorious light in the night sky. This story was inspired by the origins of inkscape (mostly the fact that the founders are not there anymore) as well my own personal life. Inkscape over the years with all the time, love and care put into it has become big and will no doubt be a blessing to many. As a novice Inkscape user this graphic was very tricky for me to draw. There is a lot I don't know, but Inkscape is fairly intuitive, which makes the learning process enjoyable. I hope to participate in more Inkscape contests and get better along the way. Let me know what you think about the concept/style!

First, I got an idea of a narrowing cylinder. It didn't look good when its wider end was on top. Then I did it again by flipping the thing vertically and almost instantly I realized what it resembled: Devils Tower which became famous from the movie "Close Encounters of the Third Kind". So next I added another cylinder, an UFO, some trees et cetera. And by the way... vector graphics arcade games were a huge thing in the 80's. :) Fonts used: - Linux Libertine (https://inkscape.org/~bryce/%E2%98%85linux-libertine) - Euphoria Script Regular Extended (https://inkscape.org/~bryce/%E2%98%85euphoria-script-regular-extended) - Oswald (https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Oswald?query=oswald&preview.text_type=custom)

Fonts: Linux Libertine & Ubuntu https://inkscape.org/gallery/item/10250/ https://design.ubuntu.com/font/ I needed to research the world of Paisley patterns. With it's crazy receding details, amazing colours and a feeling of visualising madness. I found 3 types of Paisley, 'Overlapping', as I used here. 'Spaced out'. Where no element overlaps, always having a gap between them. And 'Architectural', where a single continuous shape grows and branches out to fill the design.

I was first trying to make a scenery using inkscape hill. But I found that I am not so good at such kind of artwork. Later I decided to make a artwork my way- the sector I am good at- logo like stuffs. Inkscape filters are awesome but so under-rated. I made the awesome frozen and shining style using only the filters and nothing else. You can easily understand how powerful these filters can be. I hope the developers will work more to make a filter preview panel, only then it will be easier for people to use this feature. I am designing in Inkscape for years and I have a deep love for this software. Since I left Adobe creative cloud- Inkscape was the software that I used about 98% of my designs. I dream that soon this software will surpass Adobe Illustrator. My best wishes are always with Inkscape.

20 years, still rendering... This image was created entirely within the built in filter editor.* Just stacking up filter primitives into a long filter chain, to resemble a landscape with some artistic styling. Visually it is somewhere between an impresssionist painting and paper marbling. It might not be the most streamlined one resembling a vector image editor, nor the theme is too complex either -just a landscape made as an ink blot. But, had some fun making it nevertheless. Theoretically it'd always be possible to add in more elements into the composition. Still, it's a bit of a pc melting piece as it is and decided not to push it further. If you click the raster image in the gallery or open the svg, handle with care. *Why you may ask? For a few reasons. Inkscape has about the only svg filter editor with a "live preview" today. Filters in general need some love -from the svg specs side and the filter editor side as well. May some examples bring attention and gain interest in future development on it.
