I am trying to create an offset to a logo. I'm new to Inkscape, but I watched a Youtube video on doing an offset from the text button. The image I have is imported. I cannot get the "diamond" handle to appear to allow me to size my offset.
My procedure is: Path>Object to Path>Object>Ungroup>Path>Union>Path>Offset Link>deselect the snapping button. Here's where I lose track of what to do to create an offset border around the lettering in the logo.
It's just the same except you control the amount the path expands by. So follow your tutorial up to the bit where you Union everything, then, instead of selecting Path / Outset on the menu, select Path / Dynamic Offset. With the node tool selected, you'll see a little diamond node (usually at the top centre). Click on this and drag, and your path will enlarge.
I cannot get the diamond to appear on the image so I can drag my offset size. Do I need to have a transparent background for this to work, or does it make any difference?
Also, is everything that you're trying to offset definitely unioned? It won't work on a group. It makes no difference if your object is coloured/transparent or is a stroke.
Click your object once and look at the taskbar at the bottom of the screen (under the colour swatches). Does is say 'Path [x] in Layer [x]'. If it doesn't say 'Path' (for example, if it says Group instead) then Dynamic Offset won't work.

Any help would be appreciated.
I think you want the Dynamic Offset, which is different from the Outset command on the Path menu.
The Outset command will always enlarge by a set amount. Dynamic Offset allows the user to control the amount.
OK, but do I follow the same procedure to use that?
