Tim, joining a group doesn't automatically make you a staff member.
Someone allowed you to join the teams, but forgot (or didn't know that they need) to check the 'staff' box by your name. This should be fixed now. Related bug report: https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape-web/+bug/1575116
