At first I wasn't able to change a stroke to anything other than a solid line. Googled that and the suggestion was to select a different color. The dialogue box started working, but the dashes are very strange. Intstead of a single line of dashes it almost looks like the stroke (on either side of the fill) is dashing but not the fill. It looks like this.
Along the same line. I have drawn a Bezier curve as a solid line. I want it now to be dashed....but it won't allow me to change the appearance. What am I not understanding! Thanks in Advance!

Looks.like you did convert a tiny stroke to path, getting this double line appearence. Check with node tool.
