Beginners' Questions Spiro problems

    Hi all,

I've come across some weirdness when editing spiro paths as indicated by the 2 images attached and svg also attached

    Inkscape 1.1

    Ubuntu 20.04

I've created some lines using "Draw Bezier curves and straight lines( B)" using "Spiro" option and "Triangle out" with a width of 0.20 and 0.25

When I move one of the nodes 2 lines sometime shoot out from the end of the line. I've tried to search but don't know the term to search on. I'm curious as to what is going on and whether I'm doing anything incorrectly.

    Any help appreciated

    Alastair

That´s how Spiro-Splines look internally - nothing to worry about; the curvature is totally drive by algorithms. Wonder though why you´re not using Spiro+Shape instead of 2 Path effects:

Thanks for taking a look at this.

Perhaps I've not explained correctly as I don't think I understand your explanation.  The circled point is the one that I move, if you take a look at the  node above this one(towards the top of the window) you will see that the end of the node on one of the images extends with a forked tongue effect and on the other image it does not. I've not moved the endpoints but the rendering of the line changes length.

Are you saying that the internal end points of the spiro curve are potentially different to what is actually rendered? So I don't have much/any control of the length of line as its determined by an algorithm? What can I do if I don't want the forked tongue effect to extend past the end node as I don't want it to show on the finished image.  For me it is something to worry about ;-)

    Thanks

Oh I understand the question you asked. I'm using Spiro+Shape(triangle out) and this shows up in the Path Effects area as 2 path effects.

    Maybe we use it differently:

    Thanks, cool animation.

I don't see the edit point for the Power Stroke so the only way I can interact with the path is by the Width Factor in the Power stroke(path effects) box.

If I create a bog standard bezier curve with 3 nodes and then apply Spiro spline and Power stroke path effects to it I can see the Power stroke edit points, I get one for each node not one for the entire object.

Take the Node tool to alter the thickness.

I've got it to work by uninstalling 1.1 and installing 1.2 and I can now see the node thickness handle and there is only one which is good. This only works on new objects that I've created the old objects still don't show the thickness handle. Perhaps a bit buggy or perhaps the information is not stored in the drawing?

    Thanks

Well it partially works. I get the width handle initially then it disappears and does not come back. I also get the forked tomgue effect attached is a video that captures it.
