Beginners' Questions Layers: make an exact copy onto LAYER 2 (to use as a shadow)?

    Hi everybody :

        I'm having a problem COPYing an object on LAYER 1 to LAYER 2.   As an experiment, I drew a red circle....LAYER 1.   Added a second LAYER. Made LAYER1  invisible. On LAYER 2, I drew another circle, colored it dark blue.  Made LAYER 1 visible. I can see both circles,  am able to edit each on separately.  BLURring  LAYER 2 to make it look like a shadow. GREAT !   Now, if I draw a custom shape (a leaf).  Here's the problem. Being able to make an exact  copy onto LAYER 2 (to use as a shadow).  Advice ?

    For instance:

    Copy and use Paste in Place or simply Duplicate

    Select both - hold shift and click the top object to deselect now use Move to Layer…
