Beginners' Questions Inkscape saved wrong project

    Hi,

I've been sitting with a project tonight, I've had 2 inkscape windows open at the same time, because I've cut out pictures from the other window that I've pasted into my project. I have saved several times during the evening.

All of a sudden Inkscape hangs and finally closes down and when I now try to open my saved project the program has saved half the image I had in window 2, yes that's right half the image I had in window 2, the other half is gray. Very strange.

Window 2 that I cut out from is saved as it should be. I'm pretty sure I saved my project with the right name etc. but it is completely gone.

    Very grateful for help!

    I´ve Inkscape 1.3.2

    Windows 11 ver. 23H2

    Asus FA507NV

    Thank you for your time.

Hopefully your image is intact but partly hidden. Can you upload the file for examination?

Don't forget to check the autosaves.

    Hi,

I´m sorry but I can´t upload the file.

Maybe it´s to big 604576 kB?

I find the project in autosave, thank you so much.

Does anyone know if anyone wants the faulty file for debugging or should I just throw it away?

I saved my project (save as) with a new name but now when I try to open it same result as before, another picture are saved, this time 3/4 piece and the last pieces are grey.

I just have my project up this time but the program saved wrong.

    Thank you for your time.

The file is extraordinarily large. Like 100X. A file that large may be a problem for the program and the system.

Before proceeding further, I'd try using menu: File>Clean document. Then try a save (or save as) to see the file size.

    Hi,

Thanks for your answer and time.

I'm sorry but it only changed 1kb when I "clean".

Ok, good to know that is not the issue.

Are you working with bitmap images?  If so, maybe GIMP is a better choice for this work.

First of all I want to apologize for my ignorance, I am really ashamed and very grateful for your help.

I love Inkscape and really want to learn.

How do I know if I'm working with "bitmap"?

Select object and check Status Bar at the bottom of the Inkscape for any hints/tips+tricks.

Bitmaps are made of dots ("pixels"). Vector objects are made with geometry.

Bitmaps are also referred to as image files.
