Does Inkscape open .cdr files or do I need to export them as PDF first? I am asking this as I don't have Corel Draw anymore so my files were saved as an .cdr extension...
Original .CDR files can't be opened and you would have to go through a file format both have in common - e.g. PDF... but... you can copy and paste directly from CorelDraw into Inkscape. I am not sure if all effects are supported but it's worth a try.
Edit: I tried and the original - should read CURRENT versions with the whole range of effects that CorelDraw offers. Inkscape reads the older or plainer files with little to no issues.
It is true... but Corel's current version is 23 - well they call it "Corel Graphic Suite 2021". Unless you save your CorelDraw files in an older Version [which is possible in Corel] and then there is no guarantee that those older versions did support the new functions you might have used.
Edit: I just tried... and Inkscape loads the files and most elements are read correctly - odd colour changes and stroke thickness issues aside. It starts getting faulty when a perspective transformation or 3D effects come into play - Inkscape read the text but can't handle the effect and the text is plain but editable.
Main problem for TO is he has no CD at hand. There are online converters like cloudconvert.com/cdr-converter which claims conversions to SVG; EPS, PDF etc - but I can test&check if it´s worth wile.
I have CorelDRAW X4 installed on a Windows XP computer (running in a virtual machine) and I have saved .CDR files from the X4 version, but I cannot open or import them to Inkscape, having tried with both Inkscape 1.1 and 1.3. I get "Failed to open..." error messages. This is as of today, Sept 11, 2023.

Best way is simply to try - don´t you think?
The Import dialog shows which kind of cdr files are supported. I don´t have any to check myself.

So this is not true?

@Design8Studio.com, please share an example .cdr file for evaluation.
