Is it possible to create a shape (like a rectangle) and place it along a path. I know it can be done with text, but I'm looking to do something similar with a shape. Specifically, I'd like to place long, thin rectangles along a curved path to make the stripes for a flowing flag.

Sure, in the extensions, there's pattern along path. You can basically put any object along a path (repetitive or stretched).
