I need to create a drop shadow/shadow for a round object like a coin. For example, suppose I have two quarters stacked on top of each other. I want the light source to come from the upper left corner of the coin. So the upper left corner of the stack of two coins will have now shadow, since they are directly in the path of the source of light. The shadow of the two coins will be obvious in the right lower corner of the screen.
It's common to duplicate the objects and union them, fill with black and send them to the back. Then, move the filled object in the direction you want the shadow.
Tyler, thank you so much. It's inspiring to see such talent on this forum. This is a really nice example you gave me.
For my project the view of the coins is from the top, as if it is laying on top of a table and you are directly above it looking down. Anyway, you could whip up an animate example for such a situation/scenario?
I can crudely create a grey duplicate of my gold coin, slightly blur it, and then place it behind the gold coin at an offset to create the shadow effect, however I am thinking that you might have a more elegant solution. Anyway, if you could help me out with an animated example for such a situation I would appreciate it. Or if you have any thoughts on this, please share them. Thanks again.

Does anyone know how to do this using Inkscape?
