This fonctionnality exist in Inkscape. It's will be a good idea to do it in Affinity... Select some objects > Apply random property on demand (x, y, scale...)
But I never found it (aside from tweak tool) . Am I missing something obvious ?
As I expected it seems that the tweak tool is the only current way to apply random transforms (as Maren said me some time ago).
is there a case where it needs improvement?
I think yes. Although a lot can be already done with the tweak tool (as your link demonstrates), it is at the expense of an unwanted loss of time.
For a great number of objects:
Select all object to be randomly transformed
select tweak tool, set the correct options
then hover over all previously selected objects
In these steps,AFAIK, I see 4 issues:
User shouldn't have to loose time firt selecting objects then making sure all previously selected objects were correctly hovered "manually"! Once objects are selected, a random transform command should be available that would be applied to all objects with no more steps.
Tweak tool will apply rotation in the same orientation for all objects. If user wants a random rotation in the two orientations, it is more work again !
If user wants a random rotation in a given range of value that's not possible !
Tweak tool is not an intuitive place to "hide" random transform : random transform is expected to be found in the transform dialog
That's why I made this request some time ago. But it seems that I'm the only one for wich this request is important. Some time ago I also decided to make my own extension, to make random rotation quicker, easier and more precise, without any success... More recently I decided to (try to) understand how to make some changes to the code of inkscape itself. But I'm currently stuck with a message error when following those steps about MSYS2.
Needless to say that I am currently a bit frustrated :-)
That's why I will post elsewhere in this forum topics in order to learn how to program this feature.
Thank you for listening and feel free to correct what I said above if things are not true !
Hello,
It's my first post here...
For a long time now, I have been looking for a quick and simple way to apply random transforms (e.g. rotation) to selected inkscape objects.
Here I can read :
But I never found it (aside from tweak tool) . Am I missing something obvious ?
Thank you for listening
No, I think you have it right.... the tweak tool is it, AFAICT.
It seems to work well here, is there a case where it needs improvement?
It was used with good effect here: http://www.segtsy.com/2013/07/never-boring-with-bohr/
Thank you Tyler for answering.
