I'm totally new to Inkscape and really want to like the program, but it's giving me a hard time.
First task for now is to create a couple of boxes of roughly 60x90mm and align them next to each other on a A3-sized canvas. Since I want to fill the entire page, I slightly need to adapt the size of the boxes, lets say from a width of 60mm to 61-62mm. But when I do that, the border width (in my case: 1.5 mm) also changes. So I go and try to change the border width to what it was, but then it changes the width of the box again.
Not only is that unexpected to me (imho if I change the border width, the object width shouldn't change at all, at least by default), but I simply find it impossible to create boxes with set parameters (width, height, border size). Any advice? Thanks!
hi, and welcome to the forum. If I understand what you are saying, and you want to keep your border as is, there's a place you can toggle the stroke on and off - if you mean stroke when you refer to border. (See attached). If you hover over this button, a tooltip pops up and says "when scaling objects, scale the stroke width..." So, just click on it to turn it off. (I had to play with it for awhile to get used to using it). I find that in using this, that it's sensitive, in that I usually have to unclick it, then redraw a new box for it not to change the stroke, but I have a very old pc. If this isn't what you are talking about, please let us know.
I'm not sure why you want to fill a whole page with boxes. If you want to fill each box with a different color, then carry on! If it's any other reason, there's probably a better way to achieve that, than have all those rectangles - especially that large of a page.
Another thing you might want to do, besides the tweak which flamingolady suggested, is to switch from the default visual bounding box, to the geometric bounding box. With the geometric bounding box, stroke with is not included in the size of the object. File menu > Preferences > Tools > Geometric bounding box
Thanks Flamingolady - just what the doctor ordered. 😋
@brynn: Not what I need right now, but good to know for the future. And no, I don't actually want to fill a whole page with boxes, but for seeking help, it is sometimes useful to break down a more complicated scenario to something that everyone can easily visualize.
I've been using Inkscape for a little while and am only slightly familiar with it. My question is when I import an image the box around the image is much larger than the image. How do I get the box to be the same size as the image? Please please help

That is probably because of a (white) border around the image. You can crop by going Extensions->Raster->Crop=hit Apply when satisfied.
Thank you I will try that.
