Beginners' Questions often crashes in middle of work

Hey everyone, I am using Inkscape 0.92, Often when I am working it suddenly gives me the error message of "Inkscape has encountered an internal error and will close now, the following files ...... have been saved to home" with a close button, and then it closes once the close button is pressed. Normally it seems to freeze for a few seconds before I receive the message. It also does not seem to have any rhyme or reason to when it quits, it almost seems like it gets overloaded even though I work on 1 file at a time.  I appreciate all suggestions and help. Thanks, MT-NorStar

It would help if you told us a little about your computer. Like memory, operating system etc.

Also, what kind of files are you working on? Do they contain hundreds or millions of nodes? Any effects like blur or transparency?

File types are imported images created (painted) in gimp (exported as png's) , I have been using the transparency and blur effects quite often too, as I am creating highlight on hover and linked sections on my image.

I'm no expert at troubleshooting Inkscape crashes. I was hoping someone else would be able to give you a better answer with this information. :)

It seems that you have 8 GB in total though, and about 4.5 GB free. That's not very much if you are working on large files.

I think 16 GB is a good compromise between cost and performance. Personally I'm thinking hard about getting 32.

I'd reduce the filter effects, by copying highlights/shadows and blurs to bitmaps via Alt+B, then deleting the filtered objects.

Regularly clean the document(s) by using File>Clean... to remove unused filters and other detritus.

Ok, thanks Tyler, I will try that.
