It says is a Path. I've been using Inkscape for 2 yrs and was using the 1.1 version but change it recently. Im trying to put an offset on a name, but the Linked Offset option has a picture of a little lock and dosnt let me use it. I can use the Outset, but that gives me too much, that's why I want to se the Linked option.
Set the steps of inset and outset in global inkscape preferences > behavior > steps
Use LPE > Offset to set the exact offset you want (for svg images displayed on browsers, used with other softwares - laser engraving, plotters..., do path>object to path after).
Linked offset is to be used if you want an offset that will follow modifications of the original path or text :
When you set a dynamic offset to a path, node tool doesn't display nodes anymore but a single diamond shape handle you can move to set the offset. To recover node handles, you have to use path > object to path. Note that once used on a text, the text becomes uneditable
When you use a linked offset (the locker on the icon is normal), you create another path linked to the original one (as a clone), and you can set the amount of offset with node tool as explained for dynamic offset. Then if you modifiy the original path, the linked "clone" follows. To unlink the "clone", do path > object to path. You can use a linked offset on a text : it remains editable.
So before using linked offset open objects panel and check after linked offset has been set if a new path with a circle symbol before its name is created : if yes : use node tool to set offset.
Yes, thank you. In 1.1 version I didnt have to click node tool to modify the offset, it just gave me a node automatically when I clicked linked offset. In this version I have to click node tool for the node to appear, that was my confusion. I only know the basics to create files for the laser machine 😁
1.3.1 Version and Linked Offset option is locked. Anyone know why or how to unlock it? Thanks
What tells Status Bar about your selected object?
