Is anyone else experienced this or can help figure out why Inkscape is changing my nodes? This has been happening for a while (in different versions of Inkscape also). I work on an area of a design (either one I have created or one I am editing) and then I work on a different area path, etc. I go back, the nodes have duplicated or randomly show up where I did not put them. In the attached, I'm trying to abut these shapes, snapping the nodes together so they align perfectly. First pic shows what it looked like before I moved onto a different area to clean it up. Every time I think I am done, I look around and Inkscape has changed something else. I am using Windows 10 on both a laptop and desktop with two monitors.
This is really strange. Could you say what's your usual workflow? Some effects creates some "anchors" that could create some glitches when used incorrectly, like text to follow along the path. If you only move your text and "forget" about the path, the text will reset to follow the path at some point.
Julioneto - this particular svg was one I downloaded from openclipart, then wanted to edit it to make the sections different colors (it is a turtle :) and the sections are the shell)
Tyler, I'm not sure what you mean by the z order? Also by before and after example do you mean an actual svg file or a picture. The picture I attached was labeled, Original is what it looked like when I edited it and lined it up and the after was what it looked like when I checked it over again. Thx.
I'm not sure how to do that, I haven't been able to recreate it with any consistency or determine when it is happening. My gut says that they are changing after I save. I'll see if I can find some time to maybe record it, and update my post. Thanks!
The file you uploaded isn't useful to inspect the problem. Save as .SVG and upload here. Or use this site: https://ufile.io/
Recently I reported a bug that was only "visible" after closing the file and opening again. So, it's possible you are facing something similar.
If you are having this issue with multiple files, try creating a daily backup. There are free programs that easily to that for you. So, when the problem happens, you will have a copy of a previous version of the file without the error to be compared and inspect for bugs.
julioneto, thanks so much for the suggestion, that's a great idea! My files are backed up on onedrive and I was able to download several versions through version history, but I can't see that it saved any of the versions where the nodes changed, looks like there are from after I fixed saved it I've attached the first version of the file that I got from openclipart.org and the last version with my changes, if you are interested, but I think I'm better off trying to catch it in action now that I have a better understanding of what is needed to show/analyze. Thanks sooo much for trying to help me with this.

It is not clear from the attached image if the z-order has changed from before/after.
Best would be if you can provide a "before" Inkscape svg example, and an "after" Inkscape svg example.

Please provide actual svg files, before and after.
It's also very helpful to describe step-by step the operations taken that result in the described issue.
