Beginners' Questions How To Snap Objects Precisely

I created 12 boxes on the canvas and snap them each other.

When I zoom in I see they are not snapped perfectly. There are visible small gaps.

(Small Gaps between objects and Canvas edges and objects etc.

I think It’s originates from there are a lot of snap point alternatives. So objects snap in variety of ways.

Question 1) How can I be sure they are snapped perfectly each other?

Question 2) Is there a setting to stick them perfectly?

Question 3) How do I do It?

Hi Zanshin777. I'm new to Inkscape but I'm using the grid to snap for my current project.

I had similar issues to what you described and it's likely because there are sooo many ways objects can snap together. Try clicking the triangle button that is next to the snapping button so that you can really hone in on exactly what snapping options you need -- check and uncheck as necessary.  (You may want to snip and save or take a screenshot of the snapping menu before you make changes so that you can easily set that menu back to its default settings.)  I also found it extremely helpful to zoom my screen (usually somewhere between 110 - 130).

P.S. You may want to add guides to the edges of your page. That will also help with snapping.

    Right.

    Thank you very much.

    Hi.

    Some more hints.

Switch to geometric bounding box preferably, if you use strokes in such a way. -Shift+Ctrl+P, at tools-

Switch to outlines only display mode when in doubt.

Preferably change the colour of the background and set up the grid in a way that's easier on the eye.

Allow snapping to nodes only, and not to bounding box corners. (If not changing to geometric bounding box, that can be an issue.)

There are multiple objects atop eachother at 1, 5 and 9. Clones and groups may not be necessary.

Depending what you are after there are multiple ways to achieve the goal.

For example the align and distribute tool could do the job

or using tiled clones -both of which are totally different approaches.

Even interpolating between subpaths is an option -all of which can reduce the need to rely on snapping.

Thank you very much for the detailed answer.

Very nice tricks. I’ll try those.
