Don't ask me how cause I have no clue, I did it months ago and remember nothing on how I made this frame for my artwork. But I saved it and all I can do now is change its color cause I don't know anything other than I drew a box. Duh
(note to self to create myself digital notebook about inkscape)
The other part that I really need is, I had found a way to put sort of a shadow or similar on my artwork piece to give it dept to look like it really was in a frame. I know it wasn't something that was alot of steps cause I don't know inkscape well enough to do all that.
Can someone give me some instruction to how I may have done it before so I can do it again or even give me a link to some videos would be awesome too.
I attached a file of the my artwork picture on the frame and as you can see, it looks just like that. On top of the frame.
I am Roy Torley. I'm writing a book/tutorial series for those just starting out with Inkscape and graphic design. I note your challenge with shadowing. There are a couple of tutorials in which I show you how to do drop shadows. They might contain decent resource material for you. The table of contents is at:
Tutorials 06 with Layers, 08 with Transparencies, 15 with Cylinders, Spheres, and other 3-D Effects have sections on shadowing. If this helps, then we're having a good day.
Polygon, I will try to work on that....it might be a little over my head.
Roy, haven't looked at your tutorial yet but I surely will.
For the moment to get some kind of look on it. I drew a hollow box and used blur and opacity in stroke paint to create a little extra to it. I know there has to be something more to make the picture look like it is framed up nicely. Definitely checking out your tuts and will for sure give you what, if anything, I got from it for my situation
Thanks much posters. Hope more people post so that I can find that perfect look.
In essence your´re drawing a rectangle larger than your image and add a filter. I tested a few for you with its default setting: Once satisfied place you image above the filtered rectangle.
I thought you were talking about something different. I have am still trying to figure out how to make the art piece that I add to it....look dimensional, so that it doesn't look so flat, I want it to look like it really is an art piece in a frame and I took a picture of them together.
Roy Torley I thought your link was pointed to something specific relating to what I was needing but it is your whole book/tutorial which might come in handy as I am learning but in the meantime I gotta figure out this issue I have
The bigger question remains... if the artwork is an image file (raster/bitmap), why use Inkscape rather than Gimp? (Same techniques above work in Gimp.)

I thought you're talking about the image/picture/painting itself. If it's just about the framing you can try to find tons of it in the www - so you can add any image to it.
No, I wanted the painting to look like it was really in a frame and that the frame I made that I posted would look like the picture was really mounted in that frame. That is what I meant by adding depth. To give it the realistic look of being in the frame
LOL, what has bikinibottom postings have to do with my post?
I got 2 posts today that say they are from inkscape but they are long and written in I guess foreign language. Have no clue what these are. Here is one below

The first occurrence is very accurate because I checked my e-mail at 2:35 PST. It must have just posted. This is the only spam I have ever received on the Inkscape forum. Considering that there are so many spammers out there in the cyberworld as there are cockroaches and fruit flies at all, I think it's a great thing that Polygon and Tyler are nimble with their fingers. Thank you, both of you, for keeping our corner of the world safe and civil. With appreciation, Roy
I thank all for the help on this forum especially Polygon.... I have gotten part of the way with your demos above...post #5.
At least now I have reference on how I made the frame, just still trying to get the picture to look like it is in the frame and not sitting on top! Thank you again

After ungrouping everything you can check the Objects panel for your content and the filter list:
Maybe this give you a hint how it´s done.

Hi Judi,
Sorry about the miscommunication, and yet, if the tutorial can help you in the long run, then that's a good thing.
I hope your issue is resolved soonlier than latelier,
Roy
Fast and dirty picture frame.
The bigger question remains... if the artwork is an image file (raster/bitmap), why use Inkscape rather than Gimp? (Same techniques above work in Gimp.)
The same filters applied/work with bitmap imagery:
Tyler Durden, never used Gimp...maybe one day!
Polygon, don't want to do that to my artwork....client would not like that at all...lol

I just received this very odd posting notification from bikinibottom99. Could it be deleted, please? Thank you, Roy
Done - thanks Roy.
Excellent! Many thanks, Polygon!

A spammer got past the moderators... please disregard.
I am also removing the content of the spammer's message.
Thank you Tyler Durden. I will delete the emails also, there were 2.
How come? Spam was removed 12min after posting. Maybe not quick enough for email notifications?
Hi Tyler,
At least we know what's going on. Many thanks, Tyler! I appreciate the communication! Roy
My emails came through at 2:45 and #:34AM PST
So emails came way before I posted it to here.
