Beginners' Questions Default Blend Mode

    Hello,

Today I was messing with some designs and I noticed that two objects laid over each other were visible still. I checked Fill/Stroke and saw that the opacity was set to 100%. I did some searching and found that on the Layer tab, each item had a blend mode on it.

And they were set to 92.4% in the Normal blend mode.

The issue I am having, is that every new item I create or import has this exact setting in blend mode. Normal...Opacity 92.4%.

This is just new today. I hadn't updated it...I figure I just changed a setting accidentally, but now I have no idea how to set the default for blend mode to "Normal" and "100% opacity". After spending a while trying to find the setting I may have changed, I decided to update it. I was using version 1.4 now I am using 1.4.2...sadly uninstalling 1.4 and installing 1.4.2 changed nothing and somehow the default is to have everything at 92.4% opacity in the blend mode settings.

It is getting REALLY annoying having to go to the layer tab and adjust that opacity to 100% every time I add anything new. Every shape, any drawing I do, any image I import. Every time I do a Trace Bitmap...and every layer of that trace bitmap.

    Any ideas?

I'd try resetting the preferences. The old preferences persist after installing a new version of Inkscape, and need to be reset manually. https://inkscape.org/forums/questions/getting-back-to-square-one-and-starting-over-its-easy/

Thanks. I believe I reset the layers preferences. I'll try just default resetting everything. Hopefully that does it.

    I think that it's a bug that's causing the 92.4% opacity..

I should have a chance tonight to try resetting to defaults and report back.

I am 99% sure I tried that already...but...certainly worth trying again.

If that doesnt work...does anyone know where the settings file is stored? Maybe I can delete it and that will force a hard reset.

The file location is shown in the Preferences>System page.

    In Windows, it is  ../users/username/AppData/roaming/inkscape

You can even delete or rename the entire directory, Inkscape will recreate it when re-launching. (That will clobber all custom additions and modifications you might have made.)

    👍

Ok I went in and reset it again and restarted it and it seems to be sorted out. Thanks for the help.

Perhaps when I did that before, I didn't restart inkscape and just tried it right away and that is why it didn't work.

Either way...Seems to be working now.
