i think the tool im using is clone, it is my goto tool for copying items , it used to be on the toolbar on the right side , technically it still is but now i have to make 3 clicks instead of one to use it, can i move that tool from the additional tools selection to the main toolbar so that it is always visible? it the one with a green box on top of a white box
i have thye tool circled in the picture below, sometimes when i open inkscape its where its always been like in the picture , other times it has an arrow just below the centre page in window icon which leads me to the duplicate tool , how do i keep it on show
unticking widescreen does work and if i cant get it to come back i will do it this way , also ctrl d works which i found yesterday
Hi, its not that i'm not sure which tool to used , rather that the tool i use most frequently isn't on the desktop but hidden and i have to click the mouse a couple of times to get to it , and after i've used it the tool closed so i have to click 3 times more than i used to when it was in the tool bar on the right,
having said that sometimes i open the program and its there other times its not, i'm not changing resolution of the program but its seems like sometimes there is space and sometimes there isnt, the screen shot i took is from my computer at work the one i do most of my work on is at home and doesn't always open the same as my work one
Inkscape can't do that, not yet anyway. You can change the toolbar visibility, but not the contents.
I just looked at your screenshot again and spotted your commands bar on the right. I missed it first time. Probably your work and home screens have different resolutions or different Windows display scaling.
As Polygon said, you're using widescreen mode. When the bar overflows the screen height, Inkscape hides some icons in a pop-out list. If you turn off [View > Widescreen] you'll see a horizontal bar on top with all icons displayed.
oh ok , ill see if my resolution has changed and if not then turn off widescreen, i'm wondering if windows themes changes resolution as the button is there sometimes

I think the button you describe is the Duplicate button.
You may prefer to have the Commands Bar at the top of the screen, by un-ticking the checkbox: menu: View>Widescreen.

These are the macOS shortcuts but you might get the idea:

Maybe it's this.
[View > Show/Hide > Commands Bar]
its getting closer , can i choose what things show up in the commands toolbar, like my most used tools?
