I made those to use in test questions on radio navigation for student pilots. I tried to give them a 3D look with light and shadows. Seems like it worked :)

You used rotate copies LPE or clone tiling ?
For scales? It was tiled clones.
I use both for this kind of scales, and find rotate copies LPE fast and convenient.
Doesn't make a major difference to me. In any case, it wasn't the most difficult part of it.
