Hello. Recently Inkscape has been simplifying paths automatically, either when I click on them individually or if I select them as a group (to copy and paste them on another file, for instance). Most of the modified paths are ones that I've traced most recently on large files I work on. I usually save the latest iteration of these files separately, and in this case the paths are modified too. If I open the last version the paths are usually how they should be, but they'll be affected if I select them. I haven't been able to find any information on this. I fear I won't be able to recover work I've lost; in any case, I'd like to find a way to stop this from happening.
I opened one of the modified files in Boxy SVG to try to show you the problem; apparently this program doesn't modify my paths, although it's super slow and unable to handle my file efficiently. The affected version was opened in Inkscape.
Have you ever seen this? Any guidance will be appreciated. Thank you for your insights.
I had a similar problem with imported pdf files. They looked great until I moved or edited or ungrouped anything. I eventually realised that my imported shapes were more precise than Inkscape's decimal precision. Importing an image retains the precision of the original but any operation that recalculates node positions will lose the finer details.
Open the Preferences panel [shift+ctrl+p] and navigate to [Input/Output > SVG Output] and increase the value of [Numeric precision: XX].
Hello again, and thank you for the kind replies. However, I think I might have not explained myself well. My problem is not with objects imported from PDFs, but with SVG files drawn from scratch. I found out recently that the modifications I mentioned happen when I try to delete one of the layers other than the main one (called image 1 in the attached file). I'm attaching the SVG file along with a PDF version. The SVG should look like the PDF. Thanks again.
I'm attaching another file. The problem happened in Inkscape just from selecting paths. BoxySVG doesn't have the issue; I saved the document from this app and then opened it with Inkscape. The issue did not appear again. Can it be related to the way Inkscape is saving the file? Also, I tried increasing the numeric precision of the SVG output as Paddy_CAD kindly suggested, but this did not solve the problem.

Please share a screenshot of your Preferences>Input/Output>SVG output. Example attached.
Also please share an example Inkscape SVG that has the issue.
