Using Inkscape with Cutters/Plotters Making File Laser Ready

I've downloaded a sample logo in an attempt to deconstruct it so I can make it usable on LightBurn. I'm having a really hard time navigating the correct way to do this. As you can see, I took the logo's color away and only left the line strokes to show the bare bones of it.

Basically, I need to make sure there aren't any overlapping lines in the finished product for it to be laserable. I need it to look like the one on the right but without the overlapping lines. I've been trying all the different path options but they aren't working how I need them to.

Any ideas and resources are appreciated!

    Depends on the laser.

    • Does the laser engrave filled areas?
    • Does the laser use color, or linewidth to determine cut vs engrave?
    • Do you intend to engrave at different depths?

Sorry for such a late response.

The vector imports into Lightburn exactly as shown in this picture. Linewidth always stays the same (hairline/1.0 pt) and colors are not relevant when opened up in my laser software since the colors in Inkscape do not transfer over. The coloring in Lightburn is really just for layer/organizational purposes and to set whether a color engraves an area or cuts a line. I don't intend on engraving different depths on this piece in particular.

I'd make it into a two color graphic. The fast and dirty way (esp if you start with a vector image) is to scale up large, make a bitmap copy (Alt+B) and auto trace it to get the filled areas. Star will be added by hand.

Ok so I tried what you said and I think we're getting close. But my tracing comes out pretty wonky. How much do I need to mess with the auto trace options to get an accurate outcome like yours?

This is a rough idea (a bit sloppy).

I think I got it pretty close. Thanks for all your help!
