hello friends, i am both new around here and also new to using Inkscape. it's been a joy to play with so far and i'm very grateful for the community that supports it. i have a want that may or may not be addressed by Inkscape as it already is, or with a simple modification. if that it so, please do suggest how i may avail myself of the functionality. if not, consider this a feature request.
want: keyboard shortcuts for brush size +/-
any time i have the pencil/ eraser/ brush tool selected, how can i change the brush size without using the Tool Controls Bar pointer inputs?
Any help in answering this question would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.
There are three different mechanisms at play here. Polygon's suggestion only applies to no. 2.
1. Calligraphy tool: can make use of pressure input to produce lines of variable width. These lines are filled shapes, though, with lots of nodes all around.
2. Pencil tool, standard mode: the resulting path has the same thickness all along the path. No pressure input possible, just a stroke on a path.
3. Pencil tool with pressure sensitive mode: this uses the PowerStroke path effect to create a stroke with variable width. The width can be adjusted in three ways:
* by increasing/decreasing pressure
* by changing the overall width of the stroke in the LPE panel
* by changing the width of sections of the path, using the node tool
(and indeed, there is no keyboard shortcut / 'action' available to change stroke thickness for a regular stroke - and feature requests need to go to https://inkscape.org/report )

this could be a nice thing to (optionally) link to the scroll wheel of a mouse too.
Scroll-wheel works on every entry fields afaik:
Yes, but compare it a bit to a poor-man's pressure sensitive tablet... it can go bigger ans smaller as you draw...
ideally i could use my wacom's sroll wheel to control it. i think +/- keyboard shortcuts would allow that.
another good input for adjusting brush size could be [hold key] + click and drag. similar to how shift+right click drag can drag the canvas
I'm pretty sure the brush and eraser are pressure sensitive. If you have a tablet, this looks like the easiest way to me.
If you don't have a tablet, a scroll wheel on a mouse could be a useful alternative.
