Beyond the Basics Batch export selected objects

In Export PNG image I try to export objects. One by one seems to work but when I want to export all (4) it does not do what I expect. I select the 4 objects and the option says "Batch export 4 selected objects". I set a filename path without file name. I enable the batch export option. I click Export. The expected result is that all 4 are exported to that folder but I don't see nothing there. I use snap version 1.0.1 under Ubuntu 20.04LTS and I see that the batch export only ends up in /home/<user>/snap/inkscape/<id> Does this mean there is no custom path support? Where can I post feature requests?

This is a limitation of snaps, unfortunately. By default a snap-packaged application can only access your home directory and its descendants. You can run some command-line voodoo to also support removable media mounted at /media, but you can't access arbitrary paths in the rest of the filesystem.

If you really need to do that you'd be better installing from the PPA.

    I'm using Inkscape 1.0.2 (1.0.2+r75+1) on Lubuntu 20.04.

    installed using

    apt-get install inkscape

I have only ever been able to png batch export to the same folder the original svg is in.

But I might be doing something wrong  ?

This options seems to export a png base upon anything that is visible within the objects bounding box, including other objects.

If you are using Linux I would be happy to write a small .sh file which runs the command line and post it here.

However I do not want to lead you to the terminal if you don't want to go there :)

Sorry, my previous post may have been a bit misleading. When I said this was a limitation of snaps, I was referring to the "Does this mean there is no custom path support?" question.

The behaviour when exporting multiple objects does appear to be as Inklinea describes it. Furthermore, if the file has not been saved (so has no path associated with it), the exported images will end up directly in your home directory for a PPA or repo installation (i.e. installed via apt), or in the snap directory for a snap install (as discovered by the OP). In either case the Filename field in the export dialog is not used at all.

@Xav Some aditional information. I try to save it in another folder that is within my home directory. I will try to install the PPA version though because according to @inklinea there must even be a newer version there.
