I'm less than a beginner and I'm trying to edit a logo that I received from my artist as a PNG file.

So I don't have the source file (for that I'd have to pay extra and I didn't think I had to, also I'm not sure I'll stick with the logo but that's a debate for another day) but I've been just cropping things and moving them around - no major changes.

The problem is, that as soon as I've achieved my desired result and I try to export the logo as a PNG file, it includes ugly grey borders. It looks like this:

I'm pretty sure this will have something to do with the fact that you're not supposed to use Inkscape as Paint type situation, but is there any way that this can be fixed? I would hate to lose out on the quality by using a subpar program to do this in. Thank you.

The grey bits are transparent areas. I pulled your logo into Inkscape and put a pink rectangle behind it to show what I mean.

Use the rectangle tool to create a shape that's the size you want, make it pure white (make sure there's no opacity anywhere) then lower it below the png file. With the white rectangle selected, go to File > Export PNG. Make sure the 'Selection' tab is selected, then export a new PNG.

Oh right, got it! That way I'll get rid of the transparency.

What I was hoping for more so, was to actually keep the transparency and make all the white areas fully transparent. In the end, I managed to do that by tracing the bitmap and selecting 'remove background'. There's definitely a loss of quality but I'm relieved to have achieved what I wanted in the end. (Below is the final result with black background)
