I swear I was readily able to select and right click multiple objects at once within a group, but now it just selects one when right clicking. Thorn in the side trying to group items. I tried restarting, shift clicking, ctrl clicking, alt, all that.
No, as in right clicking multiple objects within the Layers and Objects tab. Whether or not it actually keeps the selection while right clicking or just selects only the one I right click seems entirely random.
Selecting within a group is ctrl+shift+LMB-click to add and subtract from selection. Releasing shift and ctrl and RMB-click opens full context menu here when cursor is over one object:
No, I mean - you see 'Group' in this screenshot? I want to be able to select multiple layers in the right tab and group them together as one, not be forced to right click multiple, it selecting only one, being able to group that one only and then having to drag the rest in. When I try to right click multiple in this tab it only selects one.
I see what you mean. I can select multiple objects on the canvas then [right-click] displays a menu to work on that selection. Likewise, I can select multiple objects in the Layers and Objects dialog but [right-click] deselects everything, selects the object under the cursor, and then displays the menu, so I can only manipulate one single object.
I guess the bug gets deeper as I canΒ΄t replace the modifier key from "ctrl" to select-in-groups to anything else in Preferences->Interface->Keyboard->Modifier->Selection.

v1.3.2., msi installation, Windows.
Does it make a difference when you hoover the mouse cursor over the stroke of an selected object when right clicking as it is on macOS?

I can't imagine this is the intended behaviour. You found a bug!

Yahoo!...??? ...I guess. Yeah, it's weird. Sometimes it lets you right-click selected multiple this way. Most of the time it doesn't.
