Ardhanaareshwar is the non dualistic manifestation of both the femininity and masculinity. It symbolizes the god Shiva and goddess Parvati both in one physical form. The word Ardhanaareshwar is concatenation of Ardha (Half) + Naari(Woman) + Eeshwar(Man) meaning "half-woman half-man". In essence every being is manifestation of both aspects of masculinity and femininity. The female has higher proportion of femininity whereas the male has higher proportion of masculinity.
