Beginners' Questions Manipulate the thickness of every node separately in a path

In Illustrator there is a tool which serves to change the thickness (stroke width) related to a node in a path so that way you can get results like this:

    https://www.webdesign.org/img_articles/17810/Picture-6.jpg

In that last image the path was already expanded and thus converted to an object, but I include that one to illustrate my question, since that object comes from a path that had different degrees of thickness in all of it nodes, or at least it seems so.

Is here in Inkscape an equivalent tool? or maybe a script?

Edit: I just discovered the 'pattern along path', is quite nice but is it a more specific tool to do this task?

Edit2: Okay the 'power stroke' effect is the way, but now I have two questions about it:

1- Is it possible to snap the effect handlers to the path node? I already test all the snap to path option and it doesn't work.
For instance in this path, is it possible to snap the effect handler (pink rombus) which is near to my mouse cursor to the path node (the gray one). I would like to know how to do this because this way I can create a perfect spike and the end on my paths for example.
2- Is it possible to add more handlers?, now I just can use 3, and though I think it is enough for my task, I would like to know if it's possible to increase them.

    Hi there,

With the powerstroke.. I believe you can add points by Ctrl+Clicking on one point and then drag it aside.
I do not believe you can snap the effect to a node, as it is in reality a different path that lies on top of your original path.
But you can edit the ends of the effect. Open up the path effect editor for that: Ctrl+Shift+7.

The tweak tool can also make paths thinner and thicker. It is not very obvious at first how the tool works, but it works quite well.

Hello Kirstie, thank you for the insights. However, I tried with Ctrl+click as you said but it doesn't seem to work I tried it on the path itself and in the border of the stroke but nothing happens, just the path itself is moving.

Is unfortunate that you can't snap the effect nodes to the path nodes, although I found a semi-solution using guides it would be nice if in a future they add this feature.

    Greetings.

    Hi GO,

The powerstroke has some pink nodes, you call them handlers I think, which you can drag. This poin you can Ctrl+click to make new ones. Then you drag it aside, because the new node is added on top of the other one. The powerstroke line can have different shapes for the beginning and end, like rounded or null, which means a spike.

    Good luck with it!

I see, for some reason it didn't work before, but now it is working, thank you!
