I had an older version of Inkscape and it suddenly decided that the filling and stroke colours will not work, so I updated today to the new Inkscape but it still does not work. Could it be some kind of setting? I can't see what I am designing.
I checked on the bottom and it shows the colour I chose, I checked on the right hand side panel and it shows all the colours, and I checked the opacity. Not sure what could be wrong. :/
I have one thing selected, the object I want to fill or give a stroke. I attached a screenshot: the chosen colours are shown on the bottom of the screen and on the side too. Unfortunately, I can not practice or design anything if they are all invisible.
This is what helped me If you don't want to click it, I understand. Basically it says go to view/display mode/ and make sure it's set to normal, if it is set to outline, you will not see strokes and fill
I am brand new to this awesome program! I'm following this post and have followed all the above including uninstalling/reinstalling Inkspace. Still NO fill visibility (no problem w/ stroke). ALL indicators on screen indicate that there SHOULD be a bill. I'm baffled!
I made this diagram up for other dummies like me. Took me an embarrassing amount of time to figure out what I needed to do. I've been drawing up all my patterns for leatherwork in GIMP up until now and I've come to know GIMP very well. The only problem with GIMP is that the lines are rendered with a bit of aliased jags and I'm looking for perfectly clean lines for my patterns to get better accuracy on my leather cuts. I would love to completely migrate to Inkscape. The learning curve is YUGE so far....
I've just posted this in another thread, but this is probably close to my problem.
The filling colours won't work today. Everything worked perfectly yesterday. I was able to change fonts and fill the text with various colours and gradients. The stroke features worked perfectly. I exported objects without in various file formats without any issues.
However, today, I opened the files just to see only black text. The original SVG files still show the colour. I did reinstall Inkscape and restart my laptop, but it did not work. I could see the colour wheel, the opacity is 100%, all objects are in the layer 1, but the colour will not "apply".
What am I doing wrong? Please advise. Your help will be highly appreciated:)
Letting NoName know they are not alone. Very frustrating not be able to set the stroke of a simple 1 layer Brazier. Options are either grayed out or simply do not respond.

Do you have anything selected while you're trying to change colours and if so what does the status bar is telling you about the object?

You have 0%opacity enabled per layer, that's the reason you can't see anything. Go to the bottom left and change the value to 100 where it says O:0.
Thank you PixelPest. You are awesome. I feel stupid. It is working perfectly now. I am still learning the program 😁.
There are so many places to deal with transparency/opacity settings in the GUI that it's quite easy it gets overlooked.
I have inkscape 1.3 and am having the same problem changing the fill and stroke on text? The opacity is at 100%??
At which place? Fill and Stroke panel, Layer, Group possible, all 100%?

Not really - the Fill color indicator tells you have transparency enabled: Open Fill and Stroke panel for adjustments.

Is View->Display mode set to "Normal"?
