Beginners' Questions Custom patterns again

I'm continuing to fool around with saving custom patterns to use with Paint servers. I've discovered that if I group the objects before applying Object > Pattern > Objects to Pattern, what happens is that I get an extra "shadow" thumbnail in Paint servers--just a transparent square.  If I ungroup completely, I don't get those extra thumbnails.

Just thought that might be useful information if it's not peculiar to my setup.

    I'm on Windows 10 64-bit.

Oh, and another thing. If the custom pattern is more than about 20 mm in size, it's going to show up so large in the thumbnail that you can't tell what it is.

A pattern created with x:0, y:0 and width and height 100px (26.458mm) should fit the thumbnail.

I don't think groups has anything to do with your "shadow" thumbnails. They are gone if you open a blank document, right? You will probably have one for every object using the same pattern in your document.

No, Aero, the shadow thumbnails don't go away.  Many openings and closings of Inkscape, and they were still there. Yet when I tediously went in and unpatterned, ungrouped, and repatterned each swatch, that took care of it.  I'm talking about Paint servers, not how Patterns show up under Fill and Stroke. That I haven't carefully checked.

Who talked about the fill and stroke dialog? Did you see my picture?

Aero, thanks. I only added that about the Fill and Stroke dialog because I'm aware that if a custom pattern is active in F & S, it also shows up in the Paint Servers. I meant to be clarifying. Instead I confused you.

The main point remains that the shadow thumbnails are there in my set up if the pattern was made from a group and is then saved to User Paint servers.
