Using Inkscape with Other Programs Preserving <!ENTITY> declarations

I have some custom SVGs that use <!ENTITY> declarations for parameterization / customization. When I edit and then save those SVGs in Inkscape, my <!ENTITY> declarations disappear. Is there any way to edit the graphical content of the SVG in Inkscape and save while preserving <!ENTITY> declarations?

Secondary question: in Inkscape the <g visibility> seems to be being ignored. Seeing all shapes has value in my workflow, but is there any way to toggle on actually observing the visibility attribute in Inkscape?

I'm not an expert, but AIUI,

Inkscape uses the display property instead of visibility to show/hide objects, so I think visibility properties are ignored.

Depending on settings, it might be possible to retain the <!ENTITY> tags, depending on where they are used in the document.

It might be in this section of the preferences:
