Highlights of this preview and testing version are:

• A Welcome dialog, where the theme and the new document's size or file to open can be selected
• A Commands palette that opens when the ? key is pressed and that allows to search and use many functions without having to use a keyboard shortcut or going through the menus
• It is now possible to copy, cut and paste parts of paths with the Node tool
• The dialog docking system has been rewritten, which resolves many issues with Inkscape's docked dialogs
• New Outline overlay mode that displays object outlines while also showing their real colors
• Preferences options are now easier to find by using the new search field
• It is no longer necessary to remember to click on 'Export' in the PNG Export dialog, as the exporting will already happen after the click on 'Save' in the file selection dialog.

Over 200 changes and bug fixes were made since the 1.1 alpha release on January 17th, including:

• About screen contest winner and runner up graphics included
• Design changes in the Welcome screen
• A new filter was added that clips objects quickly (Fill + Transparency > Fast Crop)
• New debug info button that copies OS + library versions (ladybug icon) in About Screen dialog + corresponding command line command added
• Translations, extensions and documentation updated
• 'Mass' field moved in Calligraphy tool to be the first item in the tool controls
• Option to paste on top of selected item added
• Dock tabs now have a close button
• Autosave no longer overwrites the wrong file
• 'Pop selection out of group' now also works when object was selected with Ctrl+Click
• Performance much improved when a document contains multiple style tags
• Template added that can be used for About Screen Contests
• Improvements to the build system, updates for some third-party libraries, code refactoring
• Many other bug fixes, crash fixes and small improvements

Known issues:

• Extensions manager will not work on Windows yet.
