I have an old Mac that is upgraded as far as it can go.  OSX 10.7.75

I would love to get Inkscape running on it for my grand-kids to use. There is no way i'd be able to figure it out myself. I'm hoping someone here knows.

I have been completely unsuccessful  trying to find art programs that will run on it.

    Any advice?

That's indeed not so easy. As for macOS Lion you need this version: https://inkscape.org/release/inkscape-0.48/?latest=1

but requires XQuartz 2.7 as well from here to run it: https://www.xquartz.org/releases/archive.html

If I recall correctly you need to install XQuartz before Inkscape. If this is still fun I don't know - it has pretty much nothing in common with the actual releases.

    Hey Brian,

on that OS, you're indeed limited to a really old (and rather crappy) version of Inkscape. Also, as you pointed out yourself... a lot of software from that era, is outdated. I'm pretty sure you could give that device a nice second life letting it run a lightweight Linux version (I'm thinking of Ubuntu Mate, or Linux Mint Mate edition, which are quite user friendly)

On those, you'll be running the latest version of Inkscape, Firefox (browser), LibreOffice (office suite) and basically all common Linux software. Don't hesitate to ask (here, or on Linux support groups) if you need help installing a new OS.
