In the start up load menu/dialog or even the titlebar, it's not shown and i cannot find the option to turn it on. Like i got 2 files with the same name in different locations. Both are shown in the start up opening dialog, but its not possible to tell which is which

More ideally would be to know the path before opening though, but i assume going by your comment, it's not an option at all? There is plenty of space to at least show the relative path,
No, not saying it's not an option but I do see what you are talking about. Don't use the Welcome Screen. Had to enable it and enable recent documents in my OS. Then created 2 directories and placed the same file on Desktop, directory A and directory B. Did not find info on how to get path in Welcome Screen. UM22.04 Inkscape 1.2

Hover over the recent filename in the start/welcome screen, tooltip shows path.

Had to revert my system to allow recent files and change settings. As stated don't use Welcome Screen and recent files.
Checking per @TylerDurden I did not hover long enough in the Welcome Screen and they do show up but in the program
they don't show up. Screenshots 12 sec. delay to allow capture and time for hints to show. Not issue for me. All other hints work.
