Hi all, I am trying to find step by step instructions to convert a png to EPS suitable to upload to Shutterstock. I am brand new to Inkscape an know absolutely nothing about it and at this stage this is the only project I want to transact. I have searched hi and low for assistance without any success, any help would be very  much appreciated.

    Hi,

a PNG file is a bitmap file.

an SVG file is a vector file.

a bitmap file means that an image is defined by pixels. If you zoom in enough, you can see this.

a vector file means that an image is defined by mathematical formulas.

In a vector image (e.g. SVG or EPS) the sun behind a mountain is a circle shape. If you delete the mountain, a yellow circle appears.

In a bitmap image, the sun behind the mountain only has yellow pixels around the mountain. If you delete the mountain, there is nothing where your brain expects to see the sun.

There is a "Trace bitmap" function in the path menu. It's very powerful but at the same time limited in function. It can't fantasize what the original shapes were. Play with the different settings and tabs to find out all the different possibilities.
