Beginners' Questions "cropping" (or clipping?) part of a page in Inkscape

Hi everyone. I currently have a page in Inkscape with lots of text boxes. I'd like to "crop" a certain area of the page and then export just the "cropped" part. That would be the area outlined in pink. (Right now, the file is in *.svg format. I need to make sure I can set the dpi to 300 when I export. Not sure at this point in time if I want to export as svg or jpg.)

Is "clipping" what I would be doing? And since I have lots of text boxes, would I need to convert all text to paths before clipping?

I'm not asking for step by step instructions on how to do this as I need to figure things out for myself and learn how to use Inkscape, but I'm hoping for a wee bit of guidance or maybe a link to a really good youtube tutorial.

    Please see attached image.

    Thank you

edited to add: I'm using Inkscape 1.3

If it's just for exporting an area of the canvas, no clipping or anything complicated is required.

Just draw a rectangle with no fill to the size you want. Select that rectangle.

Then click the selection tab in the export panel.

    The export.

You may wish to set the stroke to none prior to export so the stroke of the rectangle is not included in the export.

If you are exporting several areas quickly, the you can use Undo after each export, to erase the rectangle and start again.

OMG that is such great news that nothing complicated is required! What you are describing sounds so similar to using Windows' Snipping Tool -- I use that a lot to grab screen shots.

When exporting the rectangle will I be able to set the dpi and possibly choose a different file format?

Also, will I need to convert all text to paths before drawing the rectangle? Or will Inkscape somehow do this behind the scenes once the rectangle is selected and exported? Will I have that option to chose during export?

Inkscape will simply use the current selection bounding box to export. So anything visible within the bounding box will be captured.

I would always recommend exporting to .png because it is lossless, then convert to what you want afterwards using whatever third party tool you like.

However, there is a setting in Edit>Preferences>Input/Output>Show all outputs in Export Dialogue which gives additional format options in the export format dropdown.
