Please excuse me if this question has come up before.
I’m trying to edit my business card in Inkscape and also create a new one for a colleague, but I’m running into difficulties. The source file I received from the original designer is in .ai format.
When I select the text I want to change (specifically the name and job title), it doesn’t behave like normal text. Instead, it shows lots of nodes and outlines around each letter, almost as if the text has been converted into shapes/paths. I’ve attached a screenshot for reference.
Could anyone advise if there’s a way to edit this text directly, or if I need to work around it (e.g. by replacing it with new text objects)? Any guidance on the best approach would be greatly appreciated.
Hello Inkscape Community,

Thank you in advance for your help!
The text is indeed already converted to paths. It will need to be recomposed, unless the creator of the file can provide an .ai file with text intact.
Thanks Tyler! I have gone back to the designer. I was itching my head for too long and searching all over the internet
Adobe Illustrator can output SVG as well, so maybe a better choice, if you want to work further in Inkscape.
