In regards to the attached image is it possible to use a boolean operatiion (division, union etc..) so that only the part of the planet that is within the circle is visible? and the part outside is removed?
Is it important that the parts outside of the green circle get physically removed? If not, than you can duplicate the circle, create a new rectangle big enough to enclose all other objects, select one of the circles and the rectangle (maybe you have to put both to top and second level in hierarchy), in menu go to Path -> Exclusion, move the resulting rectangle with the round cutout to the top of your drawing hierarchy and give it a white filling with 100% opacity. That way, the outside part of the planet is hidden but still existing. Maybe not bad for further editing later on.
I tried to use the Clip functionality but that didn't work well. It looked good in inkscape but when printing the image to pdf, the pdf was empty. Maybe I did something wrong, never used Clip (or Mask) before. 😕
If the outside part has to be removed completely, I only know of ungrouping all the paths, than:
select the green circle, duplicate it (ctrl+d, it should be created on top of hierarchy, which is good because this way the planetary path keeps its color)

the planet is a goup of multiple vector parts...
any help would be greatly appreciated!!
thanks
