I would like to see a change in how a few things work on the alignment, grouping, text side of things.
1. I would like if i have one object or one group selected that it automatically aligns to page instead of having to change it (from my preferred option of first selected.) That way i can just keep it on my preferred set up but alignment doesn't become useless when i only need to select one object.
2. I would also like an object switch position in the layer order but keep their respective positions on the page/canvas/art board. it seems like it already exists by all it does is switch the objects position on the page with another. but the tool tip says "exchange positions - stacking order." I tried to write up a bug report, but was told it is doing what it is supposed to. there are three buttons that do this exact same thing right next to each other, so I'm not sure that it is. being able to change the stacking order between any two objects would be very handy for me and my use of sending files to a cutting machine as it uses the stack order for cutting order instead of position on the page.
3. I would like to see objects selected together rotate as a group instead of individually. when I just need a 90 degree rotate it would be much faster to click a single button (or keyboard shortcut) than to use the handles.
4. this isn't as a huge deal to me as the others as it's certainly work able. this would be more of a convenience thing. But I'd love to see "put text on path" become it's own object together and the path becomes hidden. So one doesn't move the path and the text separately. If a circle is used the rotation point should be the center of the circle used. This can all be done manually, but if this could be automated somehow it would be a great feature to me.
I'd like to see window positions preserved the way they were in version 1.1.1. I was using 1.1.2 and every time I open a previously-saved document, it insists on opening on my laptop's built-in display instead of the external monitor I use as my main display. So, I've reverted back to 1.1.1 until this gets fixed.

I'd like to see the released default.svg have the units px and scale=1.
Yes, I'm well aware I can make another default.svg any way I like. I would like the release versions to be set this way to spare the users many bugs related to other scales. It used to be this way.
My feature request is to change the behavior of clicking the rotate button with two non-grouped objects selected. So that they rotate together not independently as shown in both of our gifs.
As a long time PowerPoint User I keep wanting to use Inkscape but I keep going back to PowerPoint due to the learning curve required to use Inkscape.
Maybe having a some kind of Wizard that would emulate some of the basic PowerPoint interfaces (such as shapes) that then converts that to an Inkscape command might help there .
That could also serve as a tutor as well for those (millions) who are familiar with PowerPoint but not with Inkscape.
With the general dithering making in already, would like to see that filters, mesh gradients are rendered based on higher bit-depth calculations,
and maybe even a setting where you can force oversampling (:=no more problems of anti-aliasing and nomoregap issues) and switching between srgb and linearrgb.
Gradients with non-linear interpolation between steps.
Zoom level and work area expansion beyond current technical limits. Entering cad territory in that regard just as affinity designer.
Constraint-based parametric drawing mode -where you can create like "dynamic blocks" or parametric shapes just as you can choose from in msword.
A way to preview and share custom assets of that sort and alikes -like filter assets, gradient assets etc.
A rendering mode that can render the bending radii along a path.
A rendering mode where the gradients are rendered with no interpolation between steps.
Something similar feature to diffusion curves too.
In addition a way to be able working with environment/reflection maps.
More filter primitives, more noise types -voronoi at least- and like a map-based blurring primitive you can use for creating a defocus effect or a fresnel.
Those are obviously far from current possibilities but maybe someday we'll get some of those.
Like the mesh gradient was such a loong requested feature years ago.
I would like to see a feature whereby to select and move a guideline a specific key (e.g. 'L') needs to be held down. Holding this key down will prevent the selection of anything else but guides, but will, more importantly, also increase the selection zone on either side of a guideline. This could be a configurable.
Reasons:
1. When selecting a guideline it is very easy to overshoot a few times before succeeding in grabbing the very fine line.
2. When selecting an object, a guideline is sometimes accidentally selected.
I'm most awaiting a well-functioning text tools. In the Inkscape, I create posters, leaflets and other materials for print and web. I always use text tools. The oldest Inscape versions i've used was poor in functions, but works. Then there was a big update in text that introduced new things, but it didnt work too well and dev's move it out. The current tool is backward when it comes to possibilities and in addition full of errors. These are small things... some font will not switch to another and you have to change it for a third and then return to the chosen one... sometimes when replacing the text to another selected font is deleted and the default returns. Sometimes the interval changes or resets after saving. Changing alignment also sometimes requires secret knowledge (it can not be simply centered and return to the left, it is some interface error).
I dream of a non breaking space (it was working!). It would be wonderful to have a bullet list.
what are the features that you would want in the next update of Inkscape?
It could be any design change, feature, extensions anything.
feel free to share...

That´s already there.
whenever I select two or more things and press the rotate button each object rotates separately.

@sketch_of_life Strange behavior.

@Inter, there are some improvements to text and alignment (including easier bulleting) in 1.2 that may interest you: https://youtu.be/21BNj7SCQdY?t=6626
