I cannot get the Apple Chancery font to load in Inkscape.
It is installed in my system: MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012), running macOS 10.15.7 (Catalina) and Inkscape 1.3 (0e150ed, 2023-07-21). The font comes with the operating system, and it is a TrueType font. It loads correctly in other applications (e.g., LibreOffice).
I've tried creating a custom font directory (I used this YouTube video). It looks like the other fonts are loading correctly.
Not on my Mac right now but I try TextEdit.app and type some text in Apple Chancery and save as PDF to check if Inkscape can recognize the font from there.
I saved a document using Apple Chancery to PDF and then imported into Inkscape. The text appeared correctly!
I tried opening the SVG that I wanted to add the text to, while having the corrrectly displaying imported file open, and it didn't help. I still couldn't get AC to work in my target file.
I suppose this means that I could do the work in another application and then add it in Inkscape, but I'd rather figure out how to get it to work directly, if at all possible. AC is one of my favorite fonts.
Well, I tried to save it in FontForge to reinstall, but it would not generate the font, even if I renamed it. Something about "Missing Points in Extrema." I'm sorry, I don't know what that means.
Well, I found this article, but even with FontForge, my attempts to generate failed.
I can get the page now, @Polygon, but it won't let me download anything. And none of the sites with fonts will give me anything but the non-working TTF. They say they have the OTF, but they don't.
I found an article in which the person said that they put a copy of the font in their User Library Fonts folder (/Users/[user's name]/Library/Fonts) and then it worked.
And they were right! I did the same thing and suddenly it's showing up in Inkscape.

Does anyone know what might be up?
Thank you!
Before proceeding further, I'd restart the Mac and relaunch Inkscape.
I grant I didn't think that far yesterday and I really should have, but I've tried it now. Unfortunately, no such luck.
Thanks for the nudge!

I don't remember having any issues with AC in Inkscape. I'd check here: https://developer.apple.com/fonts/system-fonts/
and check for another font format like ".otf" or install it again, followed by a Mac restart for instance.
Well . . . the link gave me a page-not-found error.
I guess I'll have to find it somewhere and reinstall. . . .

Don't know what's the issue is on your side; I double checked the link and I have access even with my old iPad.

Can't say when I'm back on !Mac, but will bookmark this thread to come back later when I have the chance
Thank you! I appreciate the assistance!
I found a solution!

Thanks so much for the help!
Glad you got it running and that´s my finding too. There are 3 places macOS stores fonts BTW:
1. /user/Library/Fonts
2. HD/System/Library/Fonts
3. HD/Library/Fonts
I'm glad you got it to work. I looked up Apple Chancery and I can see why it's one of your fave fonts -- it's so quaint and cozy.
On my macOS/BigSur "Apple Chancery" is stored in a fourth special font folder I didn´t know exist - but from where it works here;
Therein are stored the annoying "NotoSans-...." fonts for example. No idea how Apple Chancery made it into this.
