Hello! Excuse me, but where did the "mouse wheel zooms by default" checkbox go from the "Behavior" section of the "Scrolling" item? Why was it removed in version 1.1
In Edit → Preferences → Behavior → Scrolling, the setting Mouse wheel zooms by default has been removed. This setting can now be set by disabling the modifier 'Ctrl' for Canvas zoom, and enabling it for Vertical pan instead (see section about 'Customization' below for more information).
The Zoom correction factor in Edit → Preferences → Interface now works correctly for other units than mm and remembers values below 100%.
For me on macOS it´s now ctrl+cmd+scroll-wheel or scroll-wheel on the Zoom% at the bottom right of the Inkscape window.
To get zoom by scroll wheel back, go to Preferences > Keyboard and at the top of this section you have two tabs "Shortcuts" and "Modifiers" - select "Modifiers"
Here, expand "Canvas" and you see 4 choices: "Vertical Pan", "Horizontal Pan", "Canvas Zoom" and "Canvas Rotate". When you click these, you'll see the enabled buttons highlight (or not) at the top.
You want to ENABLE the Ctrl button for Vertical Pan, so click "Vertical Pan" and then click the "CTRL" button to enable it. Now, holding Control will scroll vertically.
Then highlight Canvas Zoom, and click the CTRL button to DISABLE the Control button for canvas zoom.

I'm using 1.3 and I can't figure out how to make the mouse wheel scroll without having to hold control down.
I tried going into those keyboard settings and disabling the modifier for zoom, and enabling it for vertical instead, but it's not working.
Why does such a simple thing have to be so complicated?
EDIT: Oh, I did not realize that disabling the modifier disabled the entire functionality of the scroll wheel... still, way too convoluted than having that simple checkbox which was apparently removed!

I just can quote from the official release notes:

No idea why this isn't the default.

In version 1.2, Ctrl+Wheel normally zooms in or out.

For others reading this, these settings configure the mousewheel to zoom by default:
The Ctrl key in this configuration is used with the mousewheel to scroll.
