That´s strange. Never came across this issue and never ever happened to me. Can you please upload an example file that produces this kind of PNG for further investigation?
Have you checked menu->Object->Objects… if there´s anything in the background?
I wrote the webmaster a message asking for his real eMail address. I wrote up all the machinations I have to go through to attach a file, but webmater bounced. Has lots of picture in it showing the progress.
I still doubt the checkerboard is part of Inkscape´s PNG export but more so a feature of your image viewer. Do you have the checkerboard enabled in the Document Properties? Not that it will have any influence on the PNG though.

Sorry, I can not find the "reply" function. I dragged from both krusader and Thunar. Dragging from Thunar is the same as dragging from the desktop in Xfce 4.14. Both do place the file name in the address line. I did document all this, but I have no one to send it to.

Well I also document the workaround to the issue. I am waiting from the comment to the webmaster to get back so I can send it to him.

All of my viewers? It renders pretty in Firefox and Brave, but all the native viewers give me a checkerboard. LibreOffice Writer shows it pretty too.
I do think you are on to something. "Transparent" areas are set to checkerboard in oeg. Attached is with eog transparent set to a custom color.
So I do believe what I need to find out is how to set "Transparent Areas" to a custom color in Inkscape, less my customers render with a checkerboard on his viewer.
Actually, not he end of the story. I have NO CONTROL over my customer's viewer preferences. I need to know how to set "Transparent Areas" to a custom color in Inkscape. Otherwise they will think I am an idiot.

Draw a rectangle as large as your page - give it a color of your choice - to make sure it´s under all content; go Object->Object´s... and drag it to the end of the list. Now export a PNG again.
Hi All,
Fedora 34
inkscape-1.1-4.fc34.x86_64
How do I get rid of the checkerboard on a png export?
The attachment is the exported png view with eog (eye of gnome)
Many thanks,

If I remove the private information, it does not act up. I will go through the blocks that I altered and see who is causing it
I take that back, I got my temp names mixed up. Here is an example:

Here is a screen shot of what it looks like in eog and restritto
Here is a really simple drawing
Sortry no attachment. The paperclip is a nightmare to use with Fedora
Dragging from desktop into this editor browser window didn´t work either?
Poop, If I press return in the paperclip dialog, it thinks I am done and posts!
This is the simple example and a screen shot of eog. The third is what it looks like in GIMP

Here´my PNG export from your file. There´s no checkerboard in the output - this means your image viewer put in checkerboard where transparency is:
End of story.
To contact webmaster refer to the bottom of this browser window.

That is what I did.
Thank you for all the help so far.

That did the trick. And eog displayed it perfectly with transparent set back to checkerboard. Thank you !!!
