How do I change the color of the "selected" objects?

Currently when I select an object from within many objects one on another, the only thing I see are dotted lines and the corner arrows. But this is confusing and I cannot exactly see what I selected, especially if there are grouped objects. IS it possible to change the color of the "selected" objects to other color such that I will clearly see what is selected?

Can you check at View->Display mode "Normal" is enabled?

An indicator for color of the selected objects can be seen in the lower-left corner of the Status bar (style area).

    Note:

    • Selects groups will not show a color (they have no stroke or fill); the object(s) in the group must be selected to show style info.
    • Multiple selections will show an average of the colors selected, with an "a" to signify average, or an "m" to signify multiple of the same color.
    • The Status bar can have the Style info and other areas hidden using the Preferences.
