Using Inkscape with Cutters/Plotters Torch withdrawal / tangeance entry

    Hi everyone,

My neighbor got a plasma cutter for a while but he encounter some issues that he cannot resolve by himself. I was thinking to help him with that by searching online but it wasn't very successful... So i decided to give it a try directly on a forum.

    He got 3 issues :

First, when he generate his gcode he got the torch that begin to cut when it's coming to the form, instead of just moving to it and then once it's in place, begin the cutting. Apparently to get rid of it he modifies the M3 command directly in the gcode by hand everytime.

Second, how to create an entry by tangeance for the cutter ? Does he have to draw them by hand everytime or is there a control panel somewhere to add them ?

Third, once the cutter end the curv, the torch goes up while keeping the torch on, but it's create a little melting sphere and sometimes messes the design. Is it a control that we can invert ? Like first stopping the torch and then get the torch up.

I've tried searching online but the only thing that i've found was some tutorials to prepare a path for the cutter, nothing to control the cutter in itself, or just the minimum...

Are those things managable in inkscape or should he go in another software to control the torch the was he wants ?

Thanks by advance for taking the time to read.

I suggest using a simple CAM program like SheetCam, which has the controls needed for torch height, lead-in and lead out arcs, and more.

SheetCam can accept plain svg files from Inkscape, or dxf files from Inkscape or CAD programs.

    Hi Tyler !

Thanks for responding my questions ^^

After looking around i was thinking the same, maybe use SheetCam or maybe Fusion360 because they got all the command he seems to need ^^

Too bad that Inkscape doesn't have all the command needed though...

I wish you a good day and i thank you again for helping me out !
