I'm fairly new to Inkscape, but learning more every day. My latest breakthrough involves creating fill patterns. I am able to create and (after a little experimenting) use the patterns in my drawings. (Thanks to others in this forum.) The issues are:
The setup: I create a pattern (Import an image, then: Object > Pattern > Object to Pattern) Then use the pattern: Create a square, then fill it with the pattern. The pattern is filled at a much larger scale than the original. Question: What am I doing that causes the pattern to fill at such a large scale? image size, pixels per inch, what?
Setup: Once I have the filled object, I know there are control handles to manipulate the position, scale, and rotation of the pattern. But they seem to be located a huge distance (about twice the width of my paper.) outside of the current page so that I have to zoom out to get to them visible at the same time as my drawing. How can I make them appear a better place on my screen?
I've seen posts where other users have seen this but no solution. I've attached a sample file to show the behavior.
That works great!! With the imported image located in the upper left of the page, the pattern controls are in the same location as when the pattern was created. And they work as advertised! I may experiment locating the image various location within the page.
One more question about patterns. Is there a way to rename them and/or change them, or delete them after they are created? The names that are assigned are cryptic.
Renaming is quite cumbersome: open XML editor find pattern name you want to change in the "<svg:defs id=newname"> - then find the object that carries the pattern and change its style to fill:url(#newname). It will be updated in the FIll and Stroke panel.

Thanks for any insight.
I guess it has to do with the original size of the base image which seems 752x752px.
Try your own steps again snapping the image to the upper left corner of your page befor making it into a pattern. Use the attached blank svg file.
Edit: It works regardless of document scale in 0.92.5.
Broken since 1.0.

Oh Kaaaay. I smell an enhancement.... I'd also make sure to add Delete to that area. (and maybe other ops.)
Thanks, again!
