Hi, I'm fairly new to Inkscape - I used it a few months ago with some reasonable success, but obviously have forgotten most of what I learned back then. One thing I'm having frustration with is that every time I draw a new object - which are usually starting out as rectangles at the moment - the default opacity is "0" so nothing appears. I have to open the object list, and alter the opacity.
Is there a way I can make it default to 100% for everything? I have looked in preferences.xml and while I can see the areas for drawing object defaults, I didn't see anything about opacity and of course cannot guess on what parameter to create to make it do something. I guess those just match to the preferences in the GUI anyway, which doesn't talk about opacity. I'm sure it's somewhere, I just can't find it. I just had a look in the Help - Inkscape manual, which refers to an option on the "File" menu of "Inkscape Preferences", but I don't have that option on my version.
I am using the current release 1.0.2-2 on 64-bit Windows 10, which I downloaded and installed this morning. I upgraded to that version because I was on 0.92 and it had the same default, and I figured if I asked, any response might be more relevant to the newer version.
All I really want to do is to create some plan drawings that I hope to be able to send to someone who can laser-cut some items for me. I can see people are doing that, so it does give me hope. And yes, I can just edit the opacity on each object that I add to the drawing, but it just strikes me that there must be a default other than "invisible" if I can find it.
Once you have adjusted the properties of an object make a double click on its icon in the toolset to make it permanent in the Preferences by going: ""This tool´s own style"->"Take from selection.
Inkscape comes up with some strange default settings methinks or take settings from another tool maybe: there´s always a "Reset Preferences" button at Preferences->System as a last resort.
As you suggested, that seems to have done the trick. I have only very simple requirements (for now), everything will be drawn in the same opacity and so on.

Thanks, I will try that. I was looking in there, and because it doesn't mention opacity I figured it wouldn't alter that.
